Fear or opportunities
Do you live in fear or do you choose to focus on opportunities?
These days seem like the world has gone crazy. People getting sick, people dying and people not giving a shit about security rules and lockdown.
People buying toilet paper like lunatics and other stuff, like there is no tomorrow!!
Woooo, hold your horses, this isn’t necessary at all. Please don’t choose to live in fear.
One person starts to buy toilet paper by the dozen and dozens follow without even thinking about it. It doesn’t make any sense at all…
Stop and think, why the hell do you want 144 rolls of toilet paper in your home????
It’s funny but it isn’t, because we’re like a herd of sheep. People who are buying these amounts of toilet paper, definitely live in fear and it’s a shitty way of living.
Personally I had a bad afternoon yesterday. I went out shopping, had a three hundred meters queue because we have to take distance, we could only get into the supermarket when somebody from the inside went out, there was some shortage, the supermarket was almost without people on the inside, and although I have been by myself at home and quite happy, this time it just hit me hard.
So I came home thinking about all the effort we are making all together here in Spain and other countries, and that there are still other governments not being aware of the seriousness of the situation. It just made me sad.
I gave myself permission to dwell a little bit in this state, to really feel my sadness and express it to the people who are near (digitally) and dear to me and then before I went to bed I made a list of the things that I’m grateful for and which I still can do or even things that are now a new opportunity to me.
My question to you is: ‘Is this virus thing in your hands?’ Obviously not, so please start focussing on the things you still have in hands. You can’t have control over this situation, you can only control how you react to it.
So let’s relax and look at the things we still can do.
- we can be at our cozy homes and we still have a roof over our heads
- the supermarkets are still receiving (and will be receiving) their supplies and we’re still allowed to go and shop, although we’re asked to do it quickly and only what we really need, which is quite fair I would say
- finally, we have quality time to spend with our spouse and kids (although for some this isn’t a good thing and about that’s a whole new topic for another blog 😉 )
- now, we can spend some time on our hobbies which have been in the closet for a long time because we were to busy focussing on other things
- we can connect with our loved ones through facetime, skype, WhatsApp, etc.
For me it’s all the above, plus extra time for studying, for making new contacts, to be able to talk to all my friends worldwide and for the new opportunities that will arise from this situation. Sit down for a while and write yours on a piece of paper, you will see it makes you happier.
When I wrote all these things down last night, and really felt and lingered in my gratitude, I knew that today would be a better day and it is!
This situation gives you the ability to be a rainbow in somebody else’s cloud, be a blessing for somebody else.
So for now, please keep safe, do what’s in your hands, wash your hands, work on your mindset, don’t go out, connect through other channels and be grateful, know that all is going to be well, we just need some time to get to it.
Hope this helps a little bit as a reminder that you’re not always able to control everything, you only can control how you react to it.
